Arcus

NEBULA Automatic Conveyor Cleaning System Installation

NEBULA Automatic Conveyor Cleaning System installation into one of Europe’s largest bacon producers, based in Ireland.

The client was experiencing significant downtime on the main production line due to remnants from the cooking process remaining stuck to the return side of the cooker chain conveyor, meaning the entire production line required shutting down regularly to manually clean the belt. The existing medium pressure belt cleaning system was proving ineffective, and a huge amount of water was being used.

Arcus initially provided a test rig which the client installed to ascertain the ideal pressure, water flow and temperature required to remove the debris. After a successful trial proving that the higher pressure was able to effectively remove the debris, Arcus designed and manufactured a bespoke high pressure pump, distribution manifold and spray bar system.

It has the ability to clean a 1.2 metre wide chain conveyor in four different sectors across the belt width, all controlled by a PLC control panel to allow for the timing and sequencing of the cleaning process to be easily changed. Cleaning the belt in sections means a significant reduction in water and power consumption.

The client has reported that the system is now effectively removing all the remnants from the belt, resulting in a huge reduction in downtime, and an improvement in overall hygiene and food safety standards.
